River North Neighborhood Guide

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, our locations are in some of the best neighborhoods in all of Chicagoland. As if coming to see us wasn’t motivation enough, there’s so much to do in each neighborhood you can make an entire day of dining, sipping, strolling and, of course, framing beautiful art.

That’s why we’ve asked our team in each location (the ultimate artistic insiders!) to share their favorite spots to dine, explore and more in the neighborhoods they know so well.

Up first? Our newest location in River North, one of the most design-forward hubs in the heart of the city with so much to take advantage of.

Where To Get Artistically Inspired

It’s “touristy” for a reason. The Chicago Architecture Foundation’s River Cruise is a can’t-miss Chicago icon to get a waterfront view of the famous architecture the city is renowned for. When you live here, it’s easy to take it for granted, but doing this tour every so often (or the first time if you haven’t yet!) is a great reminder of why this city is so special.

Where To Get A Great Coffee and Donut

We love the story of Firecakes Craft Donuts and can tell you from experience, this guarded family recipe is worth making a special trip for. They also have great coffee and a unique selection of other sweet treats, including a donut ice cream sandwich perfect for a hot summer day.

Where To Get A Great Meal

The Smith is a casual neighborhood Brasserie with a simple mission that resonates with us: just make people happy. We especially have respect for their perfect french fries, a recipe that apparently took 20 years to perfect.

Where To Find Great Home Decor

Not for the design faint-of-heart, The Rug Company’s River North outpost in the heart of the River North Design District is an inspiring spot to view the bold designs the brand is known for and collaborations with designers such as Alexander McQueen and Rodarte. Consider it fine artwork for your floor.

Any In-The-Know Spots Not On A Tour Guide?

When they aren’t busy framing, our team loves to grab an Adirondack chair on the Riverwalk (pro tip: sit just at the bend in the river) and catch some Chicago summer sun.

What are you waiting for? These, and more, can’t-miss River North spots await! And while you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and say hi to your friendly, local neighborhood framers.
