Framing Custom Textiles: Unique Powder Room Art

Art is more than just prints, or originals, or limited editions, or photography. Art is anything you own that you treasure, love and want to see daily so it can spark joy. Case in point: these custom Mexican textiles that were picked up during our client’s travels. She’s held on to them for years and has always wanted to have them on display. Enter: a blank wall in her powder room that was just begging for some unique art.

Step number one: lay them all out in a grid to get a sense of what they would look like cohesively. She began by telling one of our framing consultants the story of how she collected them and a little bit about the design and feel of the space where she wanted to place them.

She shared a photo of her powder room painted in a light green color, so we grabbed a swatch in as close to that shade as we could find. It’s always extremely helpful to describe or have images of the space (if you have one in mind that is!) for where a particular piece will go.

We started the framing exploration with a simple white on white look to let the textiles take center stage. But it simply wasn’t doing them justice.

So we’re on to the next option. We’re getting closer with a white mat and a gold slim profile frame… but it still feels a little flat.

Third time’s a charm! The bright white linen mat is the perfect backdrop to add a bit of texture, while the gold ornate carved frame is just what’s needed to showcase how truly special these textiles are.

And the textiles have found their forever home! A powder room is the ideal place to get a little funky and creative with art and color. Their small footprint allows you to make bold choices without it feeling overwhelming.
